GODAE QC Intercomparison Project MEDS Information

1. There is one product on-line that kind of looks like a black list. Each month I summarize what profile data are received in real-time and how many of the stations appear to have one or more problems in the profiles. I then select all those where more than 10% of the stations seem to have problems and visually review them. This results in a shorter list that I issue to ship operators each month. The URL for the on-line report is http://www.meds-sdmm.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/meds/Prog_Int/WOCE/WOCE_UOT/ShipPerformanceReport_b.asp

2. The Argo floats that I consider to have problems appear in the report I email each month.

3. We visually QC the data 3 times a week and then update to our archives and send data to others. The data file is described by http://www.meds-sdmm.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/meds/Databases/OCEAN/Format_e.htm" The important thing to notice is that each station record contains an updateflag that can be set to Delete, Replace or Update. The D's and R's come first in the file and must be executed first. Records with D's or R's arethe result of reviewing past data in light of newly arrived data. So, yesterday we may have decided a station had a bad position and so the position was flagged as bad, but today, having seen more stations (that arrived today) we have changed our mind. In this case, we would change the flag on the previous station position and the station would get a R as the update flag. Occasionally, we reprocess data and it is simpler to delete the existing records and update the reprocessed ones. So, this means that you need to consider both the update flags and process files from us in the order received. That being said, we send the data to others in an ASCII format described in the document.

4. QC done within GTSPP is described by the documents at this URL http://www.meds-sdmm.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/meds/Prog_Int/GTSPP/QC_e.htm These describe the tests we perform. These are executed through an interactive program that displays the profiles and tests the data.
